Gerrard Not Aggrieved At Suarez Leave

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has claimed that he is certainly not aggrieved at the fact that Luis Suarez decided to leave the Merseyside outfit. The Uruguay striker recently joined Barcelona for transfer fee of £ 75 million, which made him the world’s fourth most expensive player. Gerrard says that a move to the Catalan club is certainly what the 27-year-old desired and deserved in his career. Only last summer, the player was linked with a move to Arsenal, who made a £ 40 million offer. Even as Suarez expressed his desire to join Arsenal, Liverpool refused to sell him.

Gerrard has now opened up about the potential transfer to Arsenal by saying that he would have been very disappointed to see his teammate will join Arsenal. He has openly admitted that Arsenal would have been a step below for the 27-year-old striker. Suarez has been a major reason towards Liverpool getting back into the Champions League, as his 31 goals in the league got the club into second place finish. This was after they finished seventh in the previous season. After the World Cup 2014 came to a disastrous conclusion for Suarez with his four-month ban from Fifa, transfer talks progressed quickly and the transfer was completed in a week.

“His [Suárez’s] wife is from Barcelona and I don’t think you can begrudge a player like that, who has worked so hard for his dream. You can’t go against him when he says he is leaving for Barcelona. His dream from the first day he came was to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona. Last summer when he was out in the cold and training on his own that’s the conversation I had with him. I said: ‘Don’t go to Arsenal’. I would have been really sad and disappointed to see Luis go to Arsenal,” said Gerrard.
