Lionel Messi has made a fantastic start to the new season by scoring two goals in Barcelona’s opening game of the season against Real Sociedad. Barcelona absolutely demolished Sociedad in the match. The Barcelona players played with a lot of fire right from the outset. Barcelona won the match by 5-1 and started the season with a fantastic victory. David Villa also scored a goal in the match. The new manager of Barcelona, Tito Vilanova, looked delighted with the team’s victory. After the match, he said that it was wonderful to see Villa playing at his best again. He was returning from a very severe injury, but, he didn’t show any sign of nervousness. This is the quality of a great player. On being asked about Messi, Vilanova said that Messi is the greatest player in the world and he always makes a difference. It is wonderful that all the senior players are in good form and the team has to maintain this intensity throughout the league.
Barcelona took the lead in the 4th minute of the match when Carlos Puyol deflected the ball into the goal post with a brilliant header. But, Real Sociedad came back strongly and levelled the score in the 8th minute. Asier lllarramendi set up the goal and Gonzalo Castro capitalized on his pass to bring Sociedad back into the match. Messi took Barcelona ahead again by scoring his first goal in the match in the 12th minute. Messi scored again in the 15th minute to make the score 3-1. Pedro passed the ball to Messi who made his way through the defense of Sociedad and defeated the goalkeeper with a powerful shot. There was no goal in the match in the next 25 minutes. Just before the half time break, Pedro gave Sociedad another blow by scoring the fourth goal for Barcelona.
David Villa came to play as a substitute in the second half. He looked in fine nick and was running smoothly. Towards the end of the match, he netted by capitalizing on a brilliant pass from Andres Iniesta. Villa was overjoyed after scoring the goal. After the match, he told the reporters that he is immensely satisfied with the way he played in the match. He would like to score some more goals for the team in the upcoming matches.
