PELE PRAISES NEYMAR’S PSG MOVE

Brazilian football legend Pele has praised the move of compatriot Neymar Jr. from Barcelona to Paris St Germain.

Pele believes the player made the move to step out from the shadows of Lionel Messi at Barcelona.

Neymar was really going to be second fiddle for as long as he would remain at the club, until Messi retired or dropped in form to an incredible extent. And that possibly would be in three years’ time or thereabout. If he retired, Neymar would be the prime candidate for the best player in the world as Cristiano Ronaldo would also have passed his prime. At 25 already, Neymar would have a short time at the top as he would be around 28.

Messi and Ronaldo have jointly ruled the scene for the last decade. If Neymar left the Nou Camp, he gets a decent chance at competing with them from now. His switch divided opinions as many pointed to the money, greed, disagreement with the club officials, the financial issues involved in the transfer from Brazil and tax issues with the Spanish authorities, and many others.

“I think it’s a good opportunity for him and he needed to move because now he can really play and show what he’s capable of,” Pele said. Continue reading PELE PRAISES NEYMAR’S PSG MOVE

Lionel Messi Alone Will Not Solve Problems, Warns Bauza

Argentina coach Edgardo Bauza managed to convince Lionel Messi to come out of international retirement just a few months after he announced his exit from the national team.

The decision to retire from international duty was taken by Messi after watching his team suffered three consecutive disappointments in major finals. The Barcelona superstar was unable to prevent defeat in the Copa America 2015, 2016, and the World Cup 2014. The defeat in the Copa America came against Chile while the World Cup loss came against Germany. Despite having won all major honours with Barcelona, Messi is still without a major title at international level.

After having just convinced the player to come out of retirement,Bauza has warned the rest of the team that the presence of Messi alone will not solve all the problems. Lack of team effort is widely regarded as the reason for Argentina being unable to win major honours despite having come so close. The over reliance on Messi has also been attributed as one factor and this could change under the regime ofBauza. Fortunately, Argentina have a wealth of attacking talent in the form of Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero, and Angel di Maria. All these players can complement Messi and can even perform when he is unavailable.
