Lionel Messi will travel to Argentina despite trial

Lionel Messi will travel with Argentina for their training camp despite having to testify at his trial in Spain.

Lionel Messi is currently involved in a Spanish tax fraud trial and is set to appear before the court in the days to come.

He is supposed to appear before the judge on the 2nd of June but by this time Argentina will be in a training camp. Indeed, a few days later, the Argentina team will be taking part in their first game of the Copa America, and it will be important for Messi to take part in this camp.

It appears that Messi will have to fly back to Spain from the training camp to attend the trial and then return to the Argentina training camp.

Gerardo Martino has already confirmed that Messi will be joining the training camp in Argentina just a few days after playing in the Copa del Rey final with Barcelona. The coach stated that Messi will be joining the camp and then fly back to Spain to take part in the trial. The likely outcomes of the trial might be hefty fines for the Barcelona and Argentina player.

Once back to Argentina after the trial, Messi will again have to travel a long distance to Santa Clara where Argentina will be playing their first game against Chile. This will be a great occasion for them to avenge their defeat against Chile in the last Copa America. Continue reading Lionel Messi will travel to Argentina despite trial

Lionel Messi’s status as the number-one footballer in the world has come under question

Lionel Messi’s status as the number-one footballer in the world has come under question once again after his failure to get Argentina to a major international title in almost 25 years.

Argentina are going through the best period in their history especially when it comes to attacking players. Not only do they have the best player in the form of Messi, but there are also other top attackers like Sergio Aguero, Angel di Maria, and Gonzalo Higuain. Many teams would have a mouthwatering attack with such a line-up, but Argentina have not been able to score goals consistently with such players.

It proved to be a hindrance for the team in the World Cup 2014 and it hit them hard once again during the Copa America 2015. Argentina were keen to forget the memories of the loss to Germany in the final of the World Cup 12 months ago. A win against home team Chile could have been the perfect remedy for that memory, but more pain has been brought upon the national team after they lost two penalties against Chile. As a result, the wait for a major international title goes on. Messi managed to score only one goal throughout the tournament, but his Barcelona teammate Neymar has defended him. Lionel Messi gave huge advantage in Copa del Ray

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi gave his team a major advantage in the Copa del Rey match against Atletico Madrid by scoring with just three minutes to go in the first leg.

As a result, Barcelona will be much more relaxed going into the second leg despite this tie being at the Vicente Calderon. The Catalan club will be looking to win the first title since 2012. This major trophy drought has been created due to several changes at the club over the last few years. Even now, they remain in an unbalanced state with speculation surrounding the future of manager Luis Enrique.
