Lionel Messi will travel to Argentina despite trial

Lionel Messi will travel with Argentina for their training camp despite having to testify at his trial in Spain.

Lionel Messi is currently involved in a Spanish tax fraud trial and is set to appear before the court in the days to come.

He is supposed to appear before the judge on the 2nd of June but by this time Argentina will be in a training camp. Indeed, a few days later, the Argentina team will be taking part in their first game of the Copa America, and it will be important for Messi to take part in this camp.

It appears that Messi will have to fly back to Spain from the training camp to attend the trial and then return to the Argentina training camp.

Gerardo Martino has already confirmed that Messi will be joining the training camp in Argentina just a few days after playing in the Copa del Rey final with Barcelona. The coach stated that Messi will be joining the camp and then fly back to Spain to take part in the trial. The likely outcomes of the trial might be hefty fines for the Barcelona and Argentina player.

Once back to Argentina after the trial, Messi will again have to travel a long distance to Santa Clara where Argentina will be playing their first game against Chile. This will be a great occasion for them to avenge their defeat against Chile in the last Copa America.

The good news for Lionel Messi is that he has been exempted from participating in the Olympics tournament by Argentina. Martino has stated that he want Messi only to play in the Copa America, and he feels that the Olympics side can manage without him. This will give Messi time to recover after a long and tiring season.
